"As Commissioners, we must drive value for the consumer. We must focus on value, not on least cost. Allow the utility to make money but require performance. Give the consumers what they want: convenience, control and choice."

~Commissioner Scott Rupp

Scott Rupp

Public Service Commissioner for Missouri

The energy industry is complex and often confusing to a non-energy professional.  Attempts to find understandable, clear information that is not full of “industry speak” often leaves consumers frustrated and at times distrusting of their energy company and its regulators.  That is why I created this website, SimplifyingEnergy.com.  It is my goal to provide relevant, interesting information about the energy industry that will enlighten, educate and at times entertain.  I welcome your feedback as well as suggestions on content that will help to simplify the energy industry.

My Work

My experience is in building relationships and articulating understandable solutions to complex issues.

Missouri Public Service Commission (2014 – Present)

As a public service commissioner, I ensure that Missourians receive safe and reliable utility services at just, reasonable and affordable rates.  I also support economic development through the rate making process and establish policy and standards so that competition will maintain or improve the quality of services provided to Missourians.  I strive daily to dramatically increase the amount of clear and understandable information provided to the public so they can make educated utility choices.
